Classic Bacon Lettuce Avocado Tomato (BLAT) Sandwich
/I love this classic Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado & Tomato sandwich, with a couple of small twists. Add thinly sliced red onion and finish the tomatoes and onions with a light drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt. It’s a simple upgrade that adds a ton of flavor.
Start by cooking your bacon to desired level of crispiness. I like mine on the crispy side. Set the bacon aside on paper towels to let them drain. Prepare the rest of your ingredients.
Next, start layering the ingredients. Begin with the bacon on the bottom so the toast has a little buffer from any juices that might drip down. After adding the tomato and onion, drizzle a bit of olive oil and a pinch of salt over the top — which makes that seepage even more likely, but totally worth it. This method brings all those wonderful flavors together in the best way.
The final layers will be the avocado, lettuce and toast. Smoosh the sandwich together to help it hold together a bit. I highly recommend using toothpicks if you intend to slice the sandwich, like I have done in the picture above.

Classic Bacon Lettuce Avocado Tomato (BLAT) Sandwich
Ingredients
Instructions
- Start by cooking your bacon to desired level of crispyness. Set aside on paper towels to allow for draining while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
- Lightly toast the bread and spread half of mayo on each slice.
- Layer the bacon over the bottom piece of toast. Then layer the tomatoes over the bacon. Add the layer of thinly sliced red onion over the tomato.
- Gingerly drizzle the olive oil and pinch of salt over the onions/tomatoes layers.
- Follow with the layer of ripe avocado and top with the lettuce.
- Add the top slice of toast and smoosh it down a bit to help hold it together.
- Cut in halves or quarters. I cut in halves starting by adding a toothpick to the center of each half (or where the center would be once the sandwich was cut). Then cut the sandwich, serve and enjoy!
