Elevated Bistro Crab Salad Sandwich

This elevated bistro crab salad sandwich pairs sweet, tender lump crab with a bright citrus-herb dressing and a crisp crunch of fresh fennel. Served on a warm, parsley-buttered toasted bun, it delivers rich, coastal flavor in every luxurious bite.

We crafted this version low-carb because that’s my thing right now, but feel free to swap in whatever bread or rolls you love most.

INGREDIENTS HIGHLIGHTS: DRESSING

Mayonnaise & Sour Cream / Crème Fraîche: Creates a rich, creamy base with a subtle tangy balance.

Lemon Juice & Orange Zest: Brightens the dressing with fresh citrus acidity and aromatic sweetness.

Dried Tarragon: Adds a delicate, anise-like herbal depth that complements seafood.

Old Bay Seasoning: Infuses warm, savory spice notes classic to crab dishes.

Salt: Enhances and ties together all the citrus and herbal flavors.

MAKE THE DRESSING

Whisk the mayonnaise and sour cream together until smooth to create a velvety foundation for your bistro-style spread. Next, stir in the fresh lemon juice and orange zest to add a bright, elegant lift that cuts through the richness.

Finally, fold in the tarragon, Old Bay, and a pinch of salt to give the dressing its signature aromatic warmth. Once fully combined, it’s ready to toss with your crab and elevate your sandwich.

INGREDIENTS HIGHLIGHTS: CRAB SALAD

Lump Crab Meat: Delivers a delicate, sweet seafood protein that serves as the centerpiece of the salad.

Minced Fennel Bulb: Adds an aromatic, subtle anise crunch that elevates the bistro profile.

Finely Diced Radishes: Contributes a fresh pepperiness and a crisp texture contrast.

Fresh Chives: Introduces a mild, delicate onion bite and vibrant green color.

MAKE THE SALAD

Blend the minced fennel, diced radishes, and fresh chives straight into your seasoned dressing so every crunchy bite is fully coated in flavor.

Next, carefully fold in the sweet lump crab meat, using a light hand so those luscious, tender pieces stay nice and whole. Give it a quick chill in the fridge to let the bistro flavors meld together before piling it high on your sandwich.

PREPARE THE BREAD

Warm your skillet over medium heat and melt the butter, swirling in the fresh parsley to create a quick, fragrant herb bath.

Place your buns—whether low-carb or your favorite bakery style—cut-side down to soak up that seasoned goodness. Toast for a minute or two until the edges are deep golden, deliciously crisp, and ready for assembling.

PUT IT ALL TOGETHER

Lay a fresh leaf of butter lettuce over the warm bottom bun to create a crisp barrier that keeps the bread perfectly crisp. Generously heap the chilled crab salad over the greens, then finish with a light drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a dash of extra zest, chives, or Old Bay.

Cap it with your golden, herb-toasted top bun, press down gently, and serve immediately for a warm, creamy, and elevated bistro bite.

SERVE IT

Serve it right away so the bread is still a little warm. This crab salad sandwich is over the top delicious!
